THE ETERNAL

In a recent Sunday School class, Galen, one of the men, was talking about having an experience when he was in the hospital, telling us about how, for a period of time, everything became totally clear to him spiritually. I’ve had those experiences also, where everything was perfectly clear; when I understood everything spiritually that was going through me that I was seeing at the time. As I was thinking about that, God was showing me some things and I thought I should put it down on tape, just to remember it. The bible uses phrases like, “the Lord’s Day,” as John the Apostle told of his experience on the Isle of Patmos. He said, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day. (Rev. 1:10) What he’s talking about here is that he was in an eternal realm where there was no time, no space, no gravity. Everything was perfectly understandable; everything was perfectly clear. The Apostle Paul used a different phrase. He said he was in the “third heaven” (II Cor. 12:2) when he was taught certain things. These are times of revelation from God, when He releases us into the eternal, where everything is crystal clear to us. Now this day of the Lord, or the Lord’s Day is one eternal day that has never had any beginning and never has an end to it. It is the continuous, the eternal. Peter expressed it a little differently. He said, “one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (II Pet. 3:8). This is exactly what he was talking about, the eternal now. When Job said, “I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees thee” (Job. 42:5), he was referring to this clarity that we’re talking about today. After Jesus had risen again He met with them in the upper room and started speaking to them about what the scriptures said. It says about that moment, “Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures” (Lk. 24:45). This was the clarity we’re talking about. He allowed them to see clearly. It happened to the disciples walking on the Emmaus Road. The bible says, “He opened their understanding. (Lk. 24:31) This is what happened to Galen.

I had this experience with my father-in-law 20 years ago when he died. I was in California at the time and he was in Springfield, MO, but God moved me in the Spirit to the hospital room in Springfield. I was filled with the eternal, with this same clarity. When I took his hand in mine, Jim was filled with the eternal, and we turned and walked into that eternal day where there was total peace, rest and comfort and we understood everything. This is what revelation is all about; this is what visions and dreams are all about. God takes us into the eternal and lets us stand there so we can experience it first hand. Ezekiel the prophet had this happen; he said he saw the glory of the Lord, “as the color of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it. (Ezek. 1:27-28) Isaiah had experiences like that with God too. During one of the times, he said, “I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. (Is. 6:1) All these are examples of the revelation that God takes us into when He wants to teach us certain things. One of the interesting things is that when you are in this place of revelation, or the Lord’s Day, or the Day of the Lord, whichever one you want to call it, or the eternal, time is totally absent. When you come out of it, you have no idea how much time has passed.

I had another experience with one of my boys named Joey, when he was on his death bed and God told me to go and pray for him. As I prayed, I went into the Lord’s Day, into the Eternal, and God was showing me things that I needed to understand before I finished the prayer that I was praying, and I knew that I was with the Lord, being taught for about an hour. That’s how long I felt it took for what God was teaching me, all the things that God was revealing to me, but afterwards, Joey said that I had never missed a beat, that I had just continued to pray right along, and I knew that wasn’t so. But you see, in the eternal, there is no time. That’s why the scriptures can say that Jesus was put aside as the lamb slain from before the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8), because in the eternal, time does not matter. It is so interesting to hear people talk about that phrase in the bible, “A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day.” They think that Peter is talking about a natural day, a 24 hour day. He is not talking about that. He is talking about the eternal day, that which is eternal, and which has no time limit involved in it. When the Apostle John says, “I was on the Isle of Patmos on the Lord’s Day,” he is not talking about a 24 hour day. He is saying, “I was in the Spirit, on the Isle of Patmos when God put me in the eternal, into that which has no time.” That’s what he’s talking about.

This experience that Galen had in the hospital bed cannot be explained in words. You cannot get a hold of it; you cannot get a handle on it and hold on to it. It is so illusive, just like the air. It is there one moment and the next moment it is gone. Many, many people in the bible have tried to get a handle on it by using a certain word or a phrase to explain it. It cannot be explained. That’s how illusive it is. There are no human words that can translate what takes place. You can call it the Lord’s Day, or you can say, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, or the Day of the Lord.” That still does not explain what took place. In this place, we see God; we hear God; we understand God clearer, or we have a more intimate relationship with Him at that moment. Whichever it may be, it is unexplainable. At that moment, all of our natural senses are at their full capacity and operating fully. There is a clarity that we do not have in the natural. It seems like at that moment that God is able to take over all of the senses of our body and totally control them. Many times I have used the phrase, “I was in the eternal,” that is the best explanation I could give for it.

Now, I want you men to see something about the experience that Galen had in the hospital. The words he used, “It was clarity,” is what the bible is talking about. The different writers we mentioned are saying the same thing This is what God wants you to come into. In this clarity, when you get used to it, he starts depositing things about Himself into this clarity, so that you can see it; you can hear it; you can sense it; you can smell it; you can taste it; and you are in it, all at the same time. This clarity is the place of God. The bible speaks of it time and time again. King David talked about being with the Lord. Ezekiel and Job, Isaiah and Paul and John and the disciples on the Emmaus Road, had this experience of clarity. This is exactly what they are all talking about.

In this eternal place, you are nothing. Your flesh, your Adamic nature, your soul, everything about you has been put aside, and it’s all God expressing Himself in and through you, totally. This is the holy of holies, where there is nothing but God, because you are completely in God and of God (II Cor. 1:20; Col. 1:16). In this place, you are the temple of God (I Cor. 3:17; 6:19; II Cor. 6:16) coming down out of heaven. This is the city of God coming down out of heaven (Ps. 46:4; Rev. 3:12; 21:2). You don’t realize it, but all of these things mean exactly the same thing, because in this place of clarity, God starts depositing things into your spirit right there, revealing Himself totally to you. There are hundreds of trillions of things that God can share with you, and you start seeing that, in this place, there is nothing of you whatsoever. It is all God.

When you experience this a few times, you are hooked, and you go around 24 hours a day, in the Spirit, wanting more and more and more, and God starts giving you more and more and more. With me it happened that I received something once a year and then, it became once every few months; then it became once a month; then it became once a week, and now, sometimes it happens two, three, four times a week. This is the place where the Holy Spirit starts totally teaching you. Just like all the bible writers received it differently, and every one of them explained it in a different way, the same thing is going to happen to you, and then, you are going to come in here to class and you can’t wait to tell the other guys what happened and how it happened, and when you do that, each one of us start learning more about God. This is how you truly, truly learn about God, by each one of you talking about how it happened to you, and it confirms things in each of us. That is how God starts exploding in people. This is the Day of the Lord that we’re talking about right here. This is light. When God talks about light, He is talking about understanding; He is talking about clarity in understanding Him. This is what light is.

When God said, “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3), He said, “Let there be understanding.” What Galen experienced is light. There are a thousand different ways of expressing what Galen experienced, because it is God. Period. I have experienced it time and time again. This is what God laid on my heart six years ago when I started interceding for you men here, that this is what you would receive. This month was my birthday, my 6th birthday since I began intercession for you men, and God gave me this birthday present by having Galen share this with us. This is my birthday present that God gave me. Six years ago, when God said to me, “I’m going to give to these men what I have given to you and even more,” this is what He was talking about: revelation, God revealing Himself to each one of you individually, not through a teacher, but by the Holy Spirit. He is going to completely fill you up with His light, with His understanding, with His knowledge, with His revelations, with His visions, with His dreams. He is going to teach you personally. When He said to me, “I’m going to reveal myself to them even more than I have revealed myself to you,” you have no idea how excited I got about that. That was the perfect thing to say to me. I needed to hear that, because it puts everything onto God and I have no responsibility whatsoever to try to teach you men anything at all. God is my heavenly Father, my real Father. I totally trust Him for everything. I’m just like a child. When a Father says to the child, “Jump,” the child jumps and totally trusts his father, that’s just how I feel about God, that He is going to totally reveal Himself to you. I feel like I have been in the birth canal for 6 years, and finally, when Galen told us his experience, I knew something glorious is being birthed forth from God.
