SABBATH HOPE

BY:   MARIBETH SCHLOBOHM

Two stars have appeared in the sky,

Witnesses on this Friday night.

Time to remember, begin with a prayer,

Celebrate life and God’s promises

Before breaking of bread with wine,

Time to slow down and meditate on

His infinite love for us, just one more time.

The candles burn, clear light in paraffin

Shining brightly upon each hidden sin

Reminding us with warmth and light

Of the importance to keep out the night.

Remaining vigilant, keeping worldly desires at bay,

Lighting the candles, lighting hope just one more day,

Light the candles and never forget,

Light the candles and remember

God promised to stay with us, no matter the cost,

God will be with us always, in good and loss,

God will be with us when we run out of hope,

God will be with us when we no longer can cope,

God will be with us, bringing us hope,

Light for our candles, warmth for the night,

Lighting each candle with His strong right arm, His might.

Lighting each prayer with hope in His light.

A transliteration of the Hebrew prayer into English is, “Blessed

are you O L-ord our G-d, King of the Universe, who sanctifies

us by thy commandments and allows us to kindle the Sabbath

Lights”.  Without the children of Judah who were faithful to keep

Torah, I might never have known the love of a Savior who is the

Light of the World, the Word made flesh.  John 1:1-5.
