An Appointed Time Ministries Message

OCTOBER 14, 2007

I believe we are living in the most exciting times, ever. Knowledge is increasing like never before. I want to address the importance of flexibility in the way we handle this increase of revelatory knowledge.

Jesus said in John 16:12, I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

This scripture leads me to believe that His audience lacked a certain “weight bearing ability” in their consciousness. Jesus had a lot He wanted to say but they were lacking in their ability to hear what He desired to say. The framework of their mind was such that either they wouldn’t understand Him or they would reject Him. This knowledge would have to wait for another day it seems.

Matthew 9:16-17 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

We need a new mind or framework of thinking to contain the new.

New wine is volatile and expanding. It needs to be held within a new wineskin (a strong framework or container) that is stout enough and yet able to flex to hold its explosive properties. An old wineskin has already stretched just about as far as it can. New wine in old wineskins will cause the old skin to burst as the fermentation process continues past the old wineskin’s ability to contain it.

The wineskin is your mind.

It is the way you see things and process information from your current spiritual standpoint. The new wineskin will demand a removal of your self-imposed doctrinal limitations and mandates flexibility!

We have this framework of sorts in our mind, which carries and houses our spiritual ideology. This framework consists of doctrines, traditions and accepted beliefs that have been constructed throughout our life by and through teachers, parents, friends, pastors, etc. as well as from ourselves. The scripture below references a time when we will no longer be taught by man but rather we will be taught by the anointing (Christ).

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:

Below Jesus said He would build the ecclesia, the church, the called out ones, on the rock of revelation (revealed knowledge).

Matthew 16:15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him,Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock (revealed knowledge) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Parenthetical insert and emphasis mine

I would like to paraphrase the following section from a book I have read recently regarding this increase of knowledge that comes from direct revelation or inspiration if you will. I believe it expresses the concept of rapidly expanding spiritual knowledge quite well. For the consideration of space I will site, rephrase and condense a few portions below:

Such inspirational information appears within the framework of the personality that have already been set and formed. The context in which such knowledge appears will often vary, therefore. In some cases, the framework itself is used for a final time birthing a new stream of revelatory consciousness yet escaping from the framework and growing out of the context that allowed for its birth.

Those that experience such inspiration do not accept answers given by others, but insist upon finding their own. The energy generated by this rapid expansion of spiritual consciousness is enough to change a life in a matter of moments and to affect the understanding and behavior of others. These divine moments are intrusions of knowledge from one dimension of activity to another. They are highly charged and volatile.

To the extent that the person receiving revelation is true to his own vision, possibilities of expansion are available to him that could hardly be achieved otherwise. Often the information given clashes with previously held ideas and beliefs, however. Otherwise, there would be no need for the sometimes explosive, intrusive qualities of such experiences. Like TNT, these volatile revelatory moments have a way with dealing with our doctrinal construct and its boundaries.

Such an increase of knowledge requires increased sensitivity and sympathy with all life. Many individuals have experienced unusual, quite valid and intense expansions of consciousness but found themselves unable to correlate the new knowledge with past beliefs. Indeed they were not strong enough to contain the experience. In such cases, they tried to close it off, deny it and forget it.

End Paraphrase

Isn’t this an amazing description of what Jesus was trying to relay to us through the parable of the wineskin? New wine (revelation knowledge) cannot be contained within old wineskins. Old wineskins represent the old framework of our belief housed in the mind. If we try to contain revelation knowledge by using our old framework of belief it will burst and the old wineskin will be destroyed and the new wine, spilled. I have seen this happen personally on several occasions – rapidly expanding spiritual consciousness has consequences if we impose limitations and restrictions on that which we learn. Fear enters in to protect and reinforce our religious boundaries at the expense of birthing the new thing God desires to do in us and through us.

Again recently, a prophetic exhortation has been given to us regarding a strong shaking coming in our community that will cause traditions to tumble. Are you ready to have your mindsets challenged? Or, are you so content in your understanding of spiritual things that you cannot bear the things God is saying NOW?

I write this as an exhortation to those who strain for the “more.” God is visiting us and sending messengers to us who will provide for us opportunities for increased knowledge and understanding of things unseen. Messengers are visiting us in our sleep and in the solitary times of meditation and prayer, when our mind is quiet enough to hear His still small voice. There must be willingness, however, to lay aside the traditions and doctrines of man.

Mark 7:8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.

Matthew 15:6b thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

We are being afforded the opportunity to build a MIGHTY HOUSE, that is, the new wineskin of our mind is being made ready to contain the new. All that is required is trust and belief in God, not man, and not in the traditions of man. This will allow for unprecedented growth.

The mustard seed is shedding its husk and needs an environment that will allow it to become full, mature and indeed the greatest planting in the garden.

Hebrews 6:1 1 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits.
