BETRAYAL: A HUMAN EXPERIENCE

BETRAYAL: A HUMAN EXPERIENCE

Betrayal is a common human experience. My nine year old daughter may not know the words to describe how she feels when her best friend and another friend leave her out as a third party but she knows the feeling of being betrayed even as young as she is. Children cry and soon forget these painful feelings because their real world consists of their connectedness to their parents; but Teenagers and young adults can experience such intense pain of feeling betrayed, perhaps in their first experience of romantic love, that they never recover from it and are unable to form a deep and lasting relationship the rest of their lives.

Perhaps the most vivid and powerful portrayal of the experience of betrayal that I have seen acted out on the screen is by Mel Gibson. In the movie “Braveheart,” William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, leading the Scottish revolt against the English King, is defeated in battle because of the betrayal by Robert the Bruce, the leading Scottish nobleman. Wallace, racing from the field of battle and pursuing the English king, is knocked from his horse by an armored knight. Feigning death, he is approached by his victor. Suddenly he rises up and tears the helmet from the English knight. When he does he exposes Robert the Bruce, whom he thought to be his ally and friend. The pain that sears through his soul, not only a betrayal of his person but of his beloved Scotland and all those who trusted in him, is acted out magnificently. That one scene alone is worth the millions of dollars spent to make that film.

But you really do not need to see a movie to taste the bitter pain of betrayal. Each of us in our lives has, perhaps unwittingly, betrayed others and has been betrayed by others. Most importantly, you have FELT as if you were betrayed.

BETRAYAL: THE PATH OF ASCENSION

Most of you that will read this writing have already experienced intensely this breaking of your trust, not only by friends and perhaps spouses, but by people you shared some degree of spiritual awareness with. People you were committed to because of a common commitment to some higher consciousness. Perhaps a professed loyalty to Jesus or at least to the church you both attended. Maybe it was the pastor that you felt betrayed by when one day you found the door closed. I was told of a charismatic group that met in homes; and if they wanted to exclude a certain unwelcome person, they would keep the next meeting place a secret. Ouch! Do you remember the time the spirit revealed to you the meaning of the scripture: “Going therefore unto him, without the camp”? You really need to read by the spirit to understand King James English here. The meaning is: Going therefore unto him OUTSIDE the camp. That is, in order to progress in you spiritual walk there comes a time when you must leave the place of your spiritual beginnings and go were he went, outside the camp, away from the people you shared this religious consciousness with! For what reason? To be crucified. Why? Because the only way to let go of a realm of being that is no longer able to keep you, no longer serves your path of ascendancy, is for you to let go of the sense of self that keeps you connected there, that is, you must die. Unwillingly, because you did not understand. At the hands of your friends, because no one else was close enough to you. With the pricking thorns of fear in your mind and the gall of bitterness in your mouth, you left there, never to return in that same state of mind. But you could not be crucified without being betrayed, even as He was betrayed. So you too experienced betrayal!

THE MESSAGE OF CALVARY

For two thousand years we have not really been able to understand why it was that Jahshuah came and was betrayed, betrayed by one of his own into the hands of the religious and civil authorities of that day. Crucified at the hands of cruel men, died and rose again. True we experienced the cleansing of our souls from sin, the wonderful forgiveness that a child of God can know at the foot of the cross of Calvary. The beautiful infilling of the Holy Spirit. But have we truly heard his message? Do we know that what he came to show us would truly set us free from all limitation and reconnect us to the source of our being? I venture to say that only now, two thousand years after He manifested in this physical plane, only now are there a people prepared to hear and understand the eternal truth that he came to bring. You cannot really learn it by reading the scriptures alone or by obedient acts of righteousness, you must open the ear of your spirit self and hear Him whisper the truth from within, the eternal truth of who you are.

DO IT IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME!

There came a day in my journey of awakening when I heard Him say to me: DO IT IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME! As oft as you do it, do it in remembrance of me. When I heard those words I listened again to the familiar text, so often used to celebrate communion. I could hear them clearly in my mind: In the night that He was betrayed, He took the bread and broke it. As oft as you do it, do it in remembrance of me! Do what in remembrance of me? The breaking of your being, the pain of feeling betrayed, the agony of having to leave everything that was near and dear to you! Use the opportunity of that moment in your life to draw Him into your consciousness. Why? So He can whisper to you the truth of your being, who you are, the reason you came into the flesh, the purpose for your being on this planet. In the hour of your betrayal you may not have been in a place to hear him whisper to you. You may have well been bitter and angry, full of blame and shame. Guess what! You can go back any time to that point in your experience when you suffered betrayal; it is still locked inside of you if you have never resolved it! Every successive experience of betrayal serves only to focus all the betrayal of your life. Forgiving is not enough, you must understand! Let the spirit take you back, understand that all the pain of the human experience is an opportunity for spiritual ascent. Understand that whatever injustice or pain that was ever inflicted upon you is your chance to loosen yourself from your ego definition of self. Your chance to cut the umbilical ties to the lower forces of you earth experience and begin to reconnect to the eternal dimensions from which you came.

SEEING FROM AN ETERNAL POINT OF VIEW

This acknowledgment of identifying with Yahshuah in death and resurrection in our spiritual unfolding, is it the only understanding we need about betrayal? I remember very vividly as I was walking away from a moment of feeling an intense sense of betrayal, a great turning point of my life, feeling as if the inside of me was bleeding. I heard an infinitely tender and compassionate voice say to me: “Now you know how I feel.” Is it possible that our human experience, its intensely personal emotional states, are really reflections of a greater awareness beyond this physical time-space realm that we are only now reconnecting with? Can we let ourselves think that God, or at least highly spiritual entities in a non-space realm, experience being and feeling betrayed? Is it possible that the whole of our experience, like the experience of Jahshuah on the cross, is an intense remedial act of salvation for other nonphysical realms? Is it possible that there are realms of God’s being that are locked in pain and non-understanding that must be released by a collective messiah? Is it possible that the purpose of our being incarnate cannot be understood in terms of our physical experience alone?

If we are ever to truly understand our physical experience we must learn to think of it from the point of view of our non-physicalness. We must leave the earth plane of our awareness of self. We must die and rise again into a greater dimension of awareness. We must go back through the ages of our incarnation, back through Paul, through Moses, through Abraham through Adam, and remember the journey, not our ascent but our descent. We must think not in terms of becoming spiritual but rather, of becoming physical. We must see our selves as eternal beings taking on the space in our physical bodies. Then we can ask the questions of our existence. Not to relieve ourselves of the pain of betrayal but to understand why we created the experience of betrayal in this present realm. We have been exhorted to give thanks in all things. If you wish to grow and go to greater heights you must learn to so be thankful. But I tell you, when you realize the nature of this present realm and the opportunities created here by you and for you, you will not have to try to be thankful you will be filled with a spirit of thanksgiving every moment of every day!

WHY DID WE CREATE THIS BITTER PATH?

When was He betrayed? It is written: “In the NIGHT that He was betrayed.” The reason there is betrayal and broken trust in the various realms of reality is because there is not-knowing and not-understanding, there is darkness, there is night. Mankind and all spirituals must pass through the night, for it is only in the night that you can begin to form a separate consciousness. Only in the womb of darkness can your being-ness be conceived to begin the great journey of realization of awareness. Only through not-knowing can we understand and only through not-being can we become.

But the child that remains in the womb when the hour of deliverance is come will certainly die and great is the disappointment of the parents who conceived out of their love! Great is the bitterness of the womb that brings fort a stillborn child. It is time for mankind to be born again. It is time for you to come forth. Now is the hour of our greatest awakening. Now we must leave the old and tried paths and venture forth anew, away from the repeated cycles of death and of pain always asking us to do again what our forefathers have done. Now, if ever, is the time to believe, now if ever is the time to trust.

WHAT REALLY IS THIS PAIN OF BETRAYAL?

We must know that the pain of being betrayed has its source in our fear to believe in ourselves. The fear of believing in the greater truth of your being. It is time to know that all the accumulated experiences of betrayal in and by the human race have been created for you to make a breakthrough. Come out of our collective denial and recognize that nobody ever really betrayed you. You created the experience of your betrayal that you might face the greatest fear of your human existence: The fear of your own validity, the fear of the worth of your own being. The pain of betrayal is simply the fear of looking at the emerging of your being-ness and declaring it to be holy and in the image of eternity, the imaging of God in this realm. Rather than face this fear and declare it to be void as the night from which it came, we have stayed in our denial, given form to our fear and projected it outward as the experience of BETRAYAL. Generation after generation has come and gone, each creating again the cycles of death, the cycles of broken trust and betrayal. The pain is filled up in our human experience; it is time for the morning of the truth to dawn in our conscious knowing. It is time for Christ, the Son-Body that came from the Father, to rise from the dead, to reveal all things. It is time to dispel the night forever; it has served its purpose. The hour is at hand that those in the grave should hear the voice of the Son and they that hear shall live.

THE KEYS OF HELL AND THE GRAVE

One of the most illuminating scriptures on this subject is recorded in the book of the revelation of John. In it Jesus is recorded as saying these words: I am he that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. And I have the keys of hell (the grave) and of death.”

The voice that is whispering on the inside is giving us these keys. It is my understanding that they cannot be given only by the one who has them and has the visible proof of possessing those keys, the one that has experienced death for every man. Keys are that which unlocks a door or a condition or a state of mind. A physical key can unlock a physical door, but it takes a spiritual key to unlock a state of mind. A spiritual key is the key of UNDERSTANDING. The physical BODY of man is the symbol of his separation hence the symbol of DEATH. The MIND of man is where his death thoughts are; it is his GRAVE. The keys of understanding that are being given to us are the understanding of the MIND-BODY connection that we experience as physical man. One of those keys or understandings is the understanding that the pain of betrayal we experience in this mind-body connection is really the outward projection of one of our deepest fears, the fear that our being has no validity, has no worth. As we begin to turn these keys, unlocking to us our greater awareness of self that is hidden in the realms of CHRIST, we also turn the key to open the door to the dawn of the new day.
