BORN IN HEAVEN
BY: MARVIN E. COPE
My city of birth, heaven, is where I live. For years in my new birth, I thought it was a far off place. Now I know heaven is my home and that it is a worldwide city that is inside God’s sons. It is a new and mysteriously hidden inner place, hidden in eternity from ages past to ages yet unborn! This is a holy city in Spirit being that exists beyond the shores of time. It is where His holy Son, Christ lives and where the Holy Spirit, the third person of the God family, and God, the Father, live eternally in harmony. These are my new birth parents. We live in heaven together as one family in love! Heaven is in Christ! Christ is in heaven. (Acts 3:21) We are in Christ. (Rom. 6:11; 8:1; 12:5; I Cor. 1:30). Christ is in us. (Gal. 2:20). Therefore, we are in heaven now! Who ever comes to this higher spiritual awareness of being in heaven by his or her birth will stop trying to get raptured to heaven! No one can go to where they already are in Christ!
It seems odd that I’m writing this on my natural birthday. Until my new birth in Christ, I kept on looking for my real home. At age 42, when I was born again as a child of God, I learned that home for me was never here in this old outer world. Now, in identification with my new birth in Christ, I’ve been brought, carried, changed, and delivered into my new city, my real home in heaven. Instead of plowing through all the Bible from the garden to the Revelation, a years long journey of characters fighting the two power struggle that covers earth with spiritual darkness, I’ve seen the light!
When my old man died in Christ on the cross, his old Babylonian birthplace in the city of hell on earth died with him, but at that time, he didn’t know that everything belonging to the old way, the old lifestyle died with him. By the new birth into Christ, I’ve been transformed into a new man with a new city, heaven, and a new consciousness. Like the Prodigal son, I had wandered away from my heavenly family, and when I came to myself and returned home, I discovered that the whole inheritance of God is mine. And, mystery of mysteries, I find it has all been within me all through my long separation from it. Sad to say, hell is the false belief that separation from God is reality.
From my Mother’s womb, I was born into that hell of believing that separation from God and heaven is reality. Now, I’m born again in union with Christ as my reality. This transformation from living what I only thought was life in the city of hell, to life lived in the heavenly city, is a great mystery. It is the wonder of the grace of God whose being is Agape love. This heavenly love is deserved by no one but freely given to all who will receive.
For all of God’s children, heaven is their new city of birth; it is the new heavens and the new earth within. In this new life, we have a new beginning. This beginning is pictured by Peter in II Pet. 3:13, and in the 21st Chapter of the revelation of Christ, verse 1. When He reveals Himself within us, He reveals our whole new inheritance, which is His to give, and contained in it is His almighty power. “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matt. 28:18)
Heaven the new city, is covenanted by God with his sons by means of the new birth. (John 3:3,5). This new covenant is spelled out in the scriptures. (Jer. 31:33; Heb. 8:10; 10:16) When the old man died on the cross with Jesus, his old covenant with death and hell died with Him. (Rom. 6:4, 9, 11; 7:4; 8:10; Eph. 2:5; Col. 2:13). In heaven, which is always now because eternal holy being is always in the now, its citizens rejoice in their full inheritance in Christ today. These know they are loved by their father, and like returned prodigals, they wear new robes and display the ring of authority. (Luke 15: 22)
Much to my amazement, from the time of my new birth in union with Jesus Christ living in me, I’ve gradually become aware of the great deception that is now covering the earth with spiritual darkness and for years covered me as well. It is belief in the lie that separation from God is a reality and that both heaven and hell are places reserved for the future. It is disbelieving the gospel of Jesus which is: the kingdom of heaven is at hand, that the kingdom of God is within us, here inside us now. (Luke 17:20-21) It is disbelieving His word that the kingdom does not come with observation.
Heaven is not an outer place where we walk, run or into which we wait to be raptured. Heaven is a state of consciousness that is entered into only by the Holy Spirit’s initiation of a new birth. I am reconciled with the Spirit of Christ who is in union with the eternal Spirit of God as Father. In Him, I’m born into the heaven that He is, Emmanuel, God with us!
Hell is not an outer place that people go to any more than heaven is outer. Separation is the key to understanding both heaven or hell. When we are separated from the God family, we’re in hell. When we’re separated from Satan’s family by the work of Christ on the cross, we’re in heaven and heaven is in us. It’s the choice of one or the other that is given to everyone by the grace of God.
Those of us who belong to the holy kingdom within, which is our new life location and identity, by our new birth in Christ, are already in Christ’s heaven. We no longer attempt to get there either by rapture or by works. It is foolish to try to get to where you already are! We are heaven born right now! The child being born in the earth knows not where it is or who it is until the parents are able to explain, to teach and to give the child an identity, including a name and a location. Thus, as the child matures, he learns who he or she is, and where he or she lives on the earth. He receives an earthly identity and location.
Likewise, the child being born into Christ, who is in heaven, knows not where or who he or she is until the heavenly parents, the Holy Father, Holy Son and Holy Spirit are able to speak to the new born’s spirit. The inner teaching by the holy written word and revelation, are to reveal the new child’s identity, and the location wherein he or she dwells. (I Cor. 3:1). His or her new identity is in Christ and the new location is the kingdom of heaven within.
There are very many of God’s children in the earth who still haven’t learned who they really are or where they are. Many of these children’s teachers still don’t know who they are or where they are either, and this may be through no fault of their own. For generations gone by, God’s children have accepted tradition, ritual, keeping of days, etc., to establish their identity in the earth. They believe that this is who they are in the religious world. Their location is then established by the outer structure they are attending and supporting. In completely focusing on outer things to establish both identity and location, the Lord’s children have not believed Jesus’ word, “The kingdom of God is within you,” (Luke 17:20, 21) This unbelief keeps one from entering into God’s rest. (Heb. 4:2-3)
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” (Matt. 4:17) is the beginning word that establishes the identity of the new born child of God. Repent means change your mind; put on the mind of Christ; become a Christ child! This is the new identity! This birth takes place in heaven, where Christ is! Heaven is the Christ child’s home now! And heaven is located within the newborn.
This new born no longer dwells in earth’s spiritual darkness, for in Christ he or she has been delivered from the power of darkness, and has been translated into the kingdom of His dear son, (Psa. 56:13; John. 8:12; Col. 1:13) into the light of heaven. (I John 1:7) In God’s heaven within there is no darkness. (James 1:17; Rev. 21:23) The word given to our new born child is, “Arise, shine, for thy light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon thee.” (Isa. 60:1) God’s children are the children of light, part of the new city of light, (Rev. 21:10,11) that comes down as each light child appears in the earth.
Being born in heaven in the light, the child lives his or her life in that light not seen by eyes of flesh. This new born no longer belongs to the earth’s spiritual darkness. That is not his or her location or identity. The Christ child has arisen in Spirit with the body no longer held captive by the physical tomb, but spiritually free to come and go as the Lord directs.
There is nothing on earth that can stop the Christ, (light) from shining. It is this holy and glorious light that overcomes all darkness around the child. “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” (Isa. 9:2). It is Christ in the new born who is the shining light. (Matt. 5:14; John. 1:9; 8:12; 9:5; 12:46). This child is not into works but into receiving the whole heavenly light within. He or she receives from the Trinity, the gifts of God’s grace in Christ. The children receive and out of their bellies, flow rivers of living water, (John. 4:10; 7:38; Rev. 7:17) so that the garden is watered and nourished, as it was in the beginning. (Gen. 2:10)
The holy family of being is my new family. It is the family of the Trinity, the family united in the beingness of eternal love. This is the new worldwide city of love that is omnipresent and is found in the newly birthed heart of every believer, the city of Brotherly love.
There is, of course, a choice to be made between staying in the old forms of today’s hell and identifying with those organizations and institutions that portray the limitations of finite minds, or choosing to put on the new mind of Christ Jesus and identifying with His awareness of life in union with the Father’s eternal Kingdom of love in the timeless here and now. This is entering the human family of God that is guided from within, taught from within by our Holy Spirit teacher. (I John 2:27) Everything holy to be found in our new life in Christ is first found within. That is why it is a mystery.
Now, my birthday is every day. Each day is being made new as I trust and rely on the word my Father has written, “Behold, I make all things new.” (Rev. 21:5), and through Paul whose words are recorded in 2 Cor. 5:17: “Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new.” Like the Prodigal, I’ve remembered my homeland and have returned to my original birthplace, which is heaven.
