CHERUBIM and the FLAMING SWORD

Genesis 3:22-24 (KJV) 22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: 23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. 24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
God has placed barriers, obstacles, veils, doors, gates and stumbling blocks between Him and man. Here we see God hindering man from partaking of the TREE OF LIFE and driving him out of the garden and placing barriers in man’s way. Notice they weren’t to keep him from the TREE OF LIFE, but to KEEP THE WAY of the TREE OF LIFE. This is telling us that we’ll have to come into AGREEMENT with the Cherubim and the flaming sword. How we approach unto them is vitally important. Many want to partake of the TREE OF LIFE, but they try to no avail. Why? In studying the scriptures, one has to first have their eyes opened by the Holy Spirit. So many look for another way and eventual run out of time, never experiencing the LIFE of GOD – even though God was at hand all the while. They wanted the life, but not the relationship with Him, so the barrier was keeping the way. Instead of coming into agreement, they tried to go around another way. Read 2 Cor. 3:12-18 and we hear Paul say, “we use great plainness of speech”, no barrier. Notice the veil was not removed until the heart first turned. What did it turn from, but its own way? “The veil is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.”
Adam and Eve’s heart turned away from God. They were seduced to seek the LIFE of God without being in submission to the will and righteousness of Father. In reading (Gen. 11:1-9, we behold the same pattern in the building of the tower of Babel. They tried to go around God. They wanted what was in the heavenly, but they built their tower with slime instead of stone. Christ is the Cornerstone and the Capstone that you must begin with and end with. To build any other way is to build in vain.
Another witness to this is in:
Deut. 30:2 And shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;
Deut. 30:3 That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.
Deut. 30:5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.
Deut. 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
Deut. 30:11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
Deut. 30:12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut. 30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deut. 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.
Israel had just spent forty years in the wilderness, being lead around the desert by the Cloud and fire, until their hearts were made ready to enter into the promises of God. When Moses first came down from Mount Sinai, after forty days, his face shone with the glory of God. A prophetic Word was being spoken to them, but they weren’t ready to receive it. They didn’t want to have a God encounter, face to face, as Moses did. They knew what was in their hearts and it wasn’t in agreement with God. So instead of facing the death to self, Moses placed a veil (barrier) over his face. This same veil remains upon the unregenerate hearts today. They say, “Let someone seek God for us, so we don’t have to die to our flesh.” This way I can hear through my intellectual reasoning rather than through my heart. This way I won’t have to die to my self-life. This way you’ll only come to know about God, rather than coming to know Him personally.
(I Corinthians 2:9-16) Verse 9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for them that love him,”
I have heard untold ministers end the reading of this scripture at this point – leaving the impression that you’ll have to wait until you go to heaven to see into the mysteries of God. This leaves a false image (imagination) in your mind. Yet in Verse 10 it says: 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
My heart’s desire is to know the truth. Knowing the truth will make me free. Jesus is the truth that makes me free. (John 8:32) Some would base their faith on just what they believe as truth and not on whom they know as truth. In order to partake of He who is life, we need to know Jesus in a very intimate and personal way. This knowing is a love relationship. Are you so in love with Him that you’ll have no other lovers?
St. John 14:6, . . . I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me.
Many say they believe in Jesus, but their lives don’t show that they have been intimately alone with Him, to the point of manifesting His life or seed in them. The Amplified bible puts believing this way; To trust in, rely upon and to adhere to (cleave to). So ask, “Am I really believing in Him? Bear with me if I seem to be using strong words. But in order to grow, milk is not enough, but you need meat to grow up into the Lord. Milk alone will keep you soft and fat, but meat with exercise will make you strong and hard.
1 John 2:14 … young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you,
We are in an hour where the battles are hard and we need to know our enemies and how to fight the good fight of faith. Ask a soldier that has known combat and he’ll tell you battles are finished on the ground (speaking of walking it out). I see our warfare in close with hand-to-hand combat, faith against doubt, mercy against unforgiveness, love against hatred, Spirit against flesh, and life against death. I don’t want to see God’s people turned out of the way, but rather immovable. (Remember He is the way). To be faced with our enemies and to not know how to fight them is a fearful thought to the untrained. Worse yet, is to ignore that the enemy even exists. To hear the promises of God and to assume that you have no need of training is foolishness. A good example, are the ten witnesses that gave a bad report when Moses sent them into Canaan to spy out the land. The spying wasn’t to see if they could take the land, but to spy out the defenses. They forgot their orders. Their training didn’t stick, so they were unprepared when it was time to enter the promise land. They saw their enemies greater than themselves. The law and order (Ten) of God wasn’t written in their hearts. Yes, there are enemies in the promise land stronger than your own abilities. We are to fight the good fight of faith, to rule in heavenly places, to put our heel on the enemies’ head. Joshua was told that wherever he put his foot was his. We have to take the land that God has given into our hands. When the floods are high and the enemy is at our door, wanting to rob us of our victory, we need to know how to fight him skillfully with the right weapons.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (KJV) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
There were two other witnesses that came back to Moses with a good report: Joshua and Caleb. Their report was, “…neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.” (Numbers 14:9) Which man would you want at your side in battle, one filled with fear or one with a heart full of courage? These two men had a totally different outlook than the other ten witnesses. Why? It was because they had their character proven and had learned from their testing. They allowed their metal to be proven. Their trust was in God and not in their own natural strength. Paul brought forth this truth in Romans 5:3-4 “…but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience, experience; and experience (proven character), hope:
You have hope when the metal of your character has been proven. We’re learning to trust God. Stay in the proving ground of God that He might temper your soul and write His Name (authority and character) in your forehead (mind) and upon the tables of your heart. (Rev. 3:12) When the floods come and the battle rages, you’ll know that it is He in you and you are in Him, which gives you victory. Sometimes we don’t recognize our enemies, or we do, and are fearful to even think that we could overcome them. When I was a new Christian and pondering all the areas of my life that God had not yet dealt with; I feared that if I were caught right into His presence, the darkness that I could still see in my life would draw back from the light. And suddenly, at that moment, God spoke audibly into my right ear, “Yea, and I shall try you in all points of your life!” I believe the witness of God more than the witness of men. Who do you believe? Ask God and believe what He tells you. God has been faithful to His promise. And as I’ve pondered that experience over the past thirty + years, mountains in my life have come down, valleys have come up, the beasts of my carnal man have been over come, and I’ve been clothed upon with new garments. God has put me in places where the old me couldn’t walk through, but there is one in me that can walk upon the waters, calm the seas, and raise the dead. More than ever, we need to trust in Jesus Christ the savior of our souls. We live and move and have our being in Him. Our life is hid with Christ in God. It takes many tests to get the truth of Him worked into our hearts. Our minds have to be changed. As it is written, “Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life. Often man’s heart is not in union with the heart of God. When this happens, the mind of Christ rises up within, entreating man’s heart to turn towards God.
Let us return to our study of the Cherubim and the flaming sword. (Genesis 3:24) Let us rightly divide the word that we might have our spiritual eyes opened. Our natural mind likes to form false images and these can keep us from the truth. Wouldn’t you agree that blindness is a barrier? Darkness in the heart creates a spiritual barrier of blindness. Would it be wise to follow someone that is blind or isn’t able to hear from God?
Eph. 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain (empty-no witness) words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Many people speak words that don’t have the witness of Father, the Word or the Spirit. They are trying to speak for Jesus when He isn’t speaking. Therefore they have not the witness of the Father and the Spirit.
1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
To be seduced away from following the light is to turn toward the darkness and in turn reap blindness. Who would do such a thing, but those that still have darkness in their hearts? These hearts still sees something that they treasure in the kingdom of darkness. (Luke 12:34) I wish to shed a ray of light into your spiritual mind and cause you to see Jesus and the life that seeks to live in and through you. I ask that you open your heart to His word that you might hear His heart. The word Cherubim comes from a word in the Hebrew ker-oob’; a cherub or imaginary figure: translated – cherub, [plural] cherubim. The majority of believers see winged figures flying about, but I see a truth hidden from the eyes of carnal interpretation. If God showed you in a vision getting wings, would you think that you were about to die or that you were going to learn to fly in the heavenly? I see both! Even as the butterfly escapes its cocoon and spreads its wings to fly in the heavenly, even so with the believer. Once as the caterpillar, we went about our life not knowing that there was something more. Then we heard a voice calling us into the confinement of His will.
No longer could we go about our many ways of serving self, but now His will began to bind us and restrict our every move. “Not my will but thy will be done”, did the Christ within say. His Spirit was leading and guiding that we might enter into the fellowship of the sufferings of Christ. This time of confinement is the trying of the heart. We say that we’ll die for Him, that we’ll not forsake Him, but where is the proof? Paul spoke of this struggle. (Rom. 7) There can be no shadow of turning in the heart or you’ll always be vulnerable to the seductions of the Jezebel spirit. The building and entering into the Ark, the booth in the Feast of Tabernacles, the forty years on the backside of the desert for Moses, Jesus being led into a great high mountain for forty days and nights and His night in the garden of Gethsemane (the olive press) all speak of the dark night of the soul. Every saint that wants to be caught up into the life of the Spirit of Christ will have to pass this way. When the time came, (and it has come and now is), for us to enter into the maturity of the new life, that God had predestined for us, little did we know that the restriction and pressure would be so great. When it is time to leave the cocoon, the opening is very small. As the “butterfly to be” begins to stick its head out of the narrow hole, the blood is pressed back through its body. Only the blood of the new life of Christ can pass through this narrow hole. None of our old man will be allowed to squeeze through this strait and narrow way. As our new mind breaks free from the bondage of sin and death (carnal thinking), our thoughts now turn heavenward. God has been creating a new man after his likeness. It is written in our Spiritual DNA. He has placed His seed in us, at our regeneration. It has only one desire, to be to the praise of the Glory of Father. We’re no longer confined to crawl along the earth, but able to fly in the heavens. Our change began in the heart and mind. This is a process that can’t be side stepped or helped along.
Every believer has to pass this way. Once someone saw a Butterfly (to be) trying to come out of a cocoon. They lacked understanding (wisdom) and they tried to help, by opening the hole up, to make it easier. To their grieving heart they didn’t help it at all. It never did become a butterfly; its wings never fully formed to become what it was called to be. It died unfulfilled, never reaching its heart’s desire. To by-pass God’s doors, ways, and entrances will only brand you as a thief and a liar bringing forth perversions and deformities. Submitting unto God’s ways will always bring forth the beauty of the life of God.
Once the Lord asked me to stand in a situation that was going to test me in ways that I thought would be beyond my strength to endure. It lasted for one year. When I thought I could bare it no longer, I turned my heart to the Lord for an answer. He didn’t give me a way out, but a way to overcome. He showed me the characteristic of the three basic elements of solid, liquid, and gas.
John 3:3, 5…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Solid has a definite shape, volume, and doesn’t flow. Solids generally are incompressible. When we first come to the Lord, we still look like the world, act like the world, and don’t know how to flow with the Spirit of God.
Then we enter into the baptism of water. Liquids have no definite shape, have a definite volume, flows, and are incompressible. We’re learning to flow, but mostly to the path of least resistance. More often we’re lead of our emotions, rather than lead of the Spirit, to look for a path of least resistance, which is the emotional realm of waters (soul). We have more victory in this realm, we’re learning to lay down the ways of the old man, but when the pressure becomes too great, we start looking for a way out. Our soulish emotional thoughts are taken for the Spirit; for we just know God is giving us a way out of our tribulation. We resist the will of God when, in fact, He is asking us to die to something. We don’t want to put our heads, or ways of thinking, under the water. We cry out, “why should I have to die? I’m saved. He died so that I wouldn’t have to die. God doesn’t see my sin. I don’t want to go through this trial. God knows that I can’t go through this. He won’t put on me anymore than I can bear. This just brings out the worst in me.” Sure the flesh can’t bare the trials, but He wasn’t talking to the man of sin. He was talking to the Spirit man, the Christ in you. He overcame the world and through Him we can do all things. We have a new identity and trials help us to learn to get aquatinted with this new man and all His ways.
The next element is the Gas realm. It has no definite shape or volume. It flows, has particles that are independent and relatively far apart, and low in density. Gases are highly compressible and expand greatly when heated. They have a nature that speaks volumes to me spiritually, perfect elasticity (flexible, pliable, adaptable, resilient, and supple). It never losses its strength. It doesn’t fall to the ground. It is the pattern of the Life of The Spirit. God spoke a word to me in this and I heard Him. I turned my whole heart to seeking His habitation. I was required to leave many things behind. They couldn’t enter into this place. I found the walk of faith, where you worship with all your heart, surrendering all to His care. In Him I found all the strength needed to stand in my trial. I didn’t just survive, but overcame far above what I thought possible. This trial drove me into Him. We are being caught up together and meeting Him in the air, and so shall we ever be with Him. This air is His breath, His Spirit, His life, and there are Spiritual laws that govern this realm. Let us trust the wisdom of God, He knows best; let us have the mind of Christ. The restriction of the cocoon is the barrier that keeps back anything that isn’t in agreement with the image that He has for us. Only the image of the butterfly can pass through the opening; the old life of the caterpillar can’t pass through. This is the law of the Spirit of life. Those that are born of His seed have this heart cry. I’ve got it in my very bones. I’m compelled to seek Him with all my heart. He placed His Spirit in me and it is seeking out its origin, even Father. Every obstacle that God has asked me to pass through has only served to form me into the image that He has purposed for my life. When I was a servant of sin, those same circumstances only formed me into the image of my first father. If I find a hidden desire lurking in my house, that would deny allegiance to El Elyon’s Throne, I submit unto His sword. How can anyone say they love the Father and Son and not obey their commandments? Can His children desire to please another heart other than His? If there is anything in our heart that desires to please anything else, it isn’t His seed. (Rom. 1:21) His seed won’t sin, but the seed of another will. So, if sin is working in you, know that it isn’t His seed, but the seed of another. Slay it with the Spirit of Truth. (1 John 5:18)
Even as it was in the days of Noah, (Gen. 6:5) “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Prov. 6:18) so it is today. Even as the Pharisees stood before Him with their vain imaginations, so man today faces the cherubim of God. (John 5:39-40) Jesus spoke of having a right mind or imaginations, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think (imagine) ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me and you will not come to me, that ye might have life.” They wouldn’t come into agreement with the mind of Christ. The mind of Christ keeps The Way of the Tree Of Life. The cherubim are the thoughts of Father.
Phil. 2: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:”
So without the mind of Christ we don’t have access to the Tree of Life. The origin of this mind is Father.
John 14:10 …the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. John 8:28 …and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
The flaming sword, which turned every way, is the Spirit and the Word. These three are none other than the Father, the Word, and the Spirit. These three are one, in total agreement. Picture yourself standing with a drawn sword stretched out in front of you. If someone tries to approach you they’ll meet the tip of your sword. No matter what direction they approach from, you’ll turn the tip to face them and so it is with the word of God. You can’t approach unto God without encountering the tip of the sword. Listen to the following scriptures.
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two–edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The tip of His sword turns every way to keep the Way. If you think you can by-pass the Mind, the Spirit and the Word of God, you’ve been seduced and aren’t even facing in the right direction, for your heart is turned away from the truth.
Luke 6:47-49 (ASV) 47 Every one that cometh unto me, and heareth my words, and doeth them, I will show you to whom he is like: 4 8 he is like a man building a house, who digged and went deep, and laid a foundation upon the rock: and when a flood arose, the stream brake against that house, and could not shake it: because it had been well builded. 4 9 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation; against which the stream brake, and straightway it fell in; and the ruin of that house was great.
If you want to eat of the life of Christ then you’ll have to come into agreement with His MIND and be one with the WORD. This is the WAY unto LIFE. The flame upon the SWORD is the Spirit of truth baring witness to the WORD. (1 John 5:6)
1 John 5:10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness (G3141-evidence) in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony (G3141-evidence) that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony (G3141-evidence): that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life…
His Spirit in you is the evidence of the abiding Father and Son. (John 14:22-23) Also the character and authority is evidence of His life. If His life is seen in you, it is a prophetic Word to those beholding it. It isn’t just what we tell about Jesus, but the LIFE of Christ appearing (being rendered apparent) in us. Many talk about Jesus, but His life or witness isn’t seen in them.
Revelation 19:10 (KJV) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony (G3141 evidence) of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony (G3141 evidence) of Jesus is the spirit of prophecyG4394.
Is there evidence of Him in your life? John started to worship the messenger because he saw the evidence (the testimony) of the life of Jesus. The messenger was testifying and baring witness of Jesus. And to such a degree that John though it was Jesus. After all John knew Him. When Jesus was risen He began to appear in unfamiliar forms. He had to reveal Himself to them. Even then He was speaking prophetically of how to look for His appearing. Find your habitation in Him and be conformed to His image and the Spirit and Father will bare witness to Jesus Christ in you. (2 Th. 1:10)
Rom 8:19 …the manifestation of the sons of God. When His children mature to the full stature of what He has determined, then His Witness will also be upon them in full measure. The witness isn’t of them, but the one moving, living, and speaking from them. We all have been called to be Witnesses, not of ourselves, but of Him. It’s time to fully acknowledge Him, even in the face of gross contradictions.
Romans 10:3 (KJV) For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Zech 4:6. This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
