DAD, I LOVE YOU

BY:  MARIBETH SCHLOBOHM

I tuck him in at night.

Kiss him gently on the cheek

And say, “Son, I love you

Big as the sky”.

He looks at me

Through sleep-filled eyes.

Arms raised up

Bathed in moonlight,

Grasping me tightly around the neck,

Whispering in my ear,

“Da, I love you

Big as the sky”.

Years roll by

My own hair graying,

And I look up

Taking in the expanse of the sky.

Feeling small.

Saying out loud,

“Dad, I love you”.
