INDWELLING GLORY

BY:  KENNETH GREATOREX

During the hot Chicago summer of 1956, God began to plant something of HIS GLORY in my heart. Within my spirit was birthed the knowledge that I would live to see His manifested glory. We often sang the following chorus during those times of Heavenly visitation. The anointing confirmed that it had been birthed of the Spirit and not man.

There’s a mighty glory coming,

And it’s coming in our day,

Through these vessels made of clay,

There’s a mighty glory coming,

And its coming is the presence of the Lord.

In 1978 I traveled to Winnipeg, Canada for a week of meetings, and while there I gave eight messages about the GLORY OF GOD. After I arrived home I came to realize that no matter how much I had said, I still knew very little. This reality continues as, each time I learn more in some aspect of truth, I find that I still know very little. TRUTH is more than doctrinal, TRUTH is found in the unveiling of the ABIDING CHRIST.

When one reads in the Old Testament record of the GLORY OF GOD, there was usually some form of a visual display, such as a cloud, smoke, or people not being able to stand. These visible displays were outward appearings of the presence of God to people who were not able, or desirous, of knowing God better.

Adam and Eve’s sin resulted in lost access to God’s presence/fellowship, the fruit of the Tree of Life, and the glory that had covered them [Romans 3:23]. They first died spiritually, BUT could have physically LIVED FOREVER if they had continued to eat from the Tree of Life in their sinful, independent condition, so God drove them out of the Garden of Eden. [See Genesis 3:22-24]

From what has been called, “the fall,” onward, until the death, resurrection, ascension, and re-glorification of Christ, access to the presence of God was restricted. He appeared to a few, such as Moses in the burning bush, and on occasion in the visible form of a cloud. His presence was contained within a tabernacle or temple made of material things. Yet some, such as Solomon knew that buildings could not contain Him.

A people were chosen to provide a seed line until the ULTIMATE SEED was born, yet they rebelled so often that God wanted to destroy them. After one time of rebellion, God wanted to exterminate them and start a new seed line through Moses. In response to the prayer of Moses He promised not to destroy them and said, “but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.” [Numbers 14:21] No matter what happens, His plan will be accomplished!

During one time when Moses had a meeting with God, God promised that His presence would go with him. Moses then asked, “Please, show me Your glory.” [See Exodus 32:18-20] God replied, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But He said, ‘You cannot see My face AND LIVE.”

FLESH, the ADAMIC nature, cannot live in God’s presence. When our LORD revealed Himself to Isaiah, he became a CHANGED MAN. [Isaiah 6:1-8] God dealt with him and he was never the same again. As a child I recall that people wanted the “glory to come down.” What we really wanted was to feel good and to make our flesh happy. When God reveals Himself to, or in us, CHANGE must happen. The Adamic nature will die.

The Glory of God is the manifested perfection of His CHARACTER and RIGHTEOUSNESS. It is the presence of God invading our material universe, it is CHRIST IN YOU [us] who is our hope of glory. Our prayer is, “Show us Your glory, oh blessed Savior, open our eyes that we may behold, Your wondrous person, Your glorious image, show us Your glory, and we shall be made whole.”

In the Second Chapter of Habakkuk we find that Verses 5-13 speak of woes to the wicked and Verse Fifteen continues this theme. However, Verse Fourteen, similar to God’s declaration in Numbers 14:21, states, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” Clearly, in spite of all of the negative things we may see, GOD IS IN CONTROL!

One must ask, “What EARTH is God speaking about?” In the natural, ”the waters cover the sea basin.” God is saying that He wants to deal with the “earth” in us, with those things that are from the human, the Adamic realm that we so depend on. Our Lord wants to fill our “sea basin” with the glory of His presence. No longer are we to depend upon natural abilities, no matter how good, for the Lord our God is our Strength.

The Lord is our strength and the joy of our salvation, the Lord is our light we will not walk in darkness, the Lord is our life, our glory and high calling, the Lord is our all in all! We believe that He will bring us from glory to glory until all that can be seen is the CHRIST IN ALL OF US!

We can be sure that, every fetter will be broken, every mountain [high and mighty things in us] cast down, when the knowledge of the LORD is revealed. Yes, every crooked path will be made straight, when the knowledge of the Lord is revealed in us. His glory will fill our earthen vessels even as the waters cover the sea, and the knowledge of the Lord is revealed in, and through, the Christ!

In Hebrews 2:10b when we read, “in bringing MANY SONS TO GLORY,” we then realize that He who was the Firstborn Son is the One that is bringing THE MANY to GLORY. Let us be clear that whatever on may believe about “heaven” that this is not what is being spoken of here. This is the bringing of sons to a state of MATURITY IN CHRIST. It is the CHRIST LIFE IN US THAT PRODUCES THE GLORY LIFE!

In Ephesians 2:19-22 we learn that we are no longer cut off from the presence of God, rather we are members of His household, a habitation, a holy temple in the Lord in which He has chosen to dwell. Fellowship has been restored! We have access to His presence! Christ is our life and He dwells in us, and that is glorious!

Ephesians 5:27 reads when speaking of the church, “that He might present it to Himself a GLORIOUS CHURCH.” That is a CHURCH FULL OF GLORY! Yes, a church in which ALL imperfection is gone because the curse is broken, sin and death are destroyed, and Christ is the LIFE OF THE BODY, HIS GLORIOUS CHURCH!

As the chorus quoted at the beginning of this article said, “There’s a mighty glory coming.” It is coming to all who will receive, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as His people are filled with His glory that is changing us from glory to glory. May His name be praised!

Father God, we ask that the Spirit of revelation will come upon Your people so that the eyes of their spiritual understanding may be opened, so that they may see all that You have in Christ for each and all of us. May we willing choose Your ways above all other ways and things. Let Christ who is our life be gloried in your people. In Jesus name we ask, Amen!
