Thyatira was a small city in Asia Minor.  It was a leading center in the highly prized art of dying fabrics in purple and scarlet. Purple was a most valued of ancient dyes. It was obtained from a species of shellfish common to the Mediterranean Sea. The shell of these small mollusks was broken so that the a few drops of milk-like fluid that turned reddish purple on contact with the air, was extracted.

In ancient times, commoners were prohibited to wear purple garments. Lydia, one of Paul’s converts, was a seller in purple from that town. She had an open heart for truth and pursued after it. She and her entire household were baptized and received into the fellowship of the little church which had formed at Thyatira.

The resurrected Lord appeared to John on Patmos and gave him letters to write to each of the churches in action at that time. To each church, the Lord introduces Himself in the manner that He chose to meet their need. To Thyatira, Jesus comes as “The Son of God who has eyes like a flame of fire and feet like fine brass.” (Rev. 2:18)

This is not a picture of the Lamb that was slain, and it does not refer to the compassionate healer we have learned to lean upon; this One is coming to judge, rebuke and correct those who will hear. The emphasis here is not on the “Good Shepherd” leading His sheep through green pastures, but on His eyes of flaming fire, His piercing vision ready to consume the carnal works of men.

There may have been a misconception among the church at Thyatira that God’s love is that mushy kind of love that always props us up, humors us and forgives all our sins without ever dealing with our fleshly nature. This is the same erroneous thinking that may be found among some of God’s people today. They may have been of the mind that it did not matter what they believed as long as they were called by His name. So the Lord comes to them and shows them a very important side of Himself.

The Lord mentions the virtues of the saints of Thyatira first, indicating that one can do honorable works and still need correction. “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. NEVERTHELESS I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and beguile My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of sexual immorality, and she did not repent.” (Rev. 2:19-21)

As we read this, we may quickly puff up our chest and breathe a sigh of relief thinking “that has nothing to do with me!” In the natural, that may well be true, but perhaps we should look at what it means in the Spirit.

First, we know that the Lord was not speaking of the literal “Jezebel” who was married to King Ahab; she was long dead. Jesus was speaking of the same spirit that moved Jezebel and that was now moving among the saints in Thyatira. It is the very same spirit that has never given up its cunning work of replacing the words of God’s true prophets by enticing and deceiving the saints.

According to the Lord, Jezebel is a spirit that teaches sexual immorality. It is a seducing, evil spirit that gradually brings one, who is unaware, down to a morally corrupt way of life. The spirit of Jezebel beguiles the saints in the realm of “soul” first. It works on their emotions and affections. The word “beguile” is also translated “seduce.” It means to “deceive” or attract away from the truth.

In the flesh, one does not need much teaching to be seduced; the flesh is easily seduced by the things that make it “feel good.” But in the Spirit, it takes teaching to be lured away from the truth. This is the work of the spirit of Jezebel and it is powerful among those who are seeking spiritual ideals today.

This is why, today, we see a huge wave of New Age doctrines, catching many who are seeking for peace of mind, into teachings that promise to make them free but are indeed the teachings of Jezebel. People who may be seeking truth are falling for the “beguiling” promises of the New Age doctrines that are so popular today.

These teachings are promoted by influential and well-liked personalities who are themselves deceived. They are popular and appealing to the seekers, but are no more than spiritual harlotry and adultery.

Fleshly sexual immorality encompasses, “orgies, “harlotry” and “adultery” among other things. There is a difference between adultery and harlotry. Adultery is sexual immorality between a married man and a woman who is not his wife, or a married woman with a man who is not her husband.  Harlotry or whoredom is prostitution. It is trading sexual immoralities for pay; this also applies in the spirit. This is why the Lord calls the church system the mother of “harlots” or the whore that sits upon many waters.

She had traded her spiritual beauty and powers for the delicacies and pleasures of this world.  She was called to be the “Bride of Christ” but sold the purity that her Lord had purchased for her at the cross to acquire the recognition of men. This is spiritual harlotry and it is committed everyday by leaders who call themselves Christians.

She sells her prayers and spirituality to acquire goods and fortunes. This is not speaking of the honest and loving pastors and ministers who fulfill their calling and serve the people of God. It is speaking of the over the top greedy spirit that has made itself God to the people and has created the harlot that calls herself by His name.

If one turns back to the truth and the simplicity that is in Christ, they soon become aware of this spirit of Jezebel in the churches. Many today are enticed by false doctrines that promise all the spiritual advantages along with the pleasures of this world.

But Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Gal. 2:20)

As we walk with the Spirit, He separates us from our attachments to the world and the worldly church. When we are crucified with Christ, we no longer crave these delicacies. This is a work of His Spirit in us. We receive the things that supply our natural needs through the world, and our Father will often bless us abundantly too, but our hearts hunger first for the treasures of God’s kingdom.

Jesus taught, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matt. 6:33) When our hearts truly seek for spiritual riches, we find that He provides all our needs. If our hearts desire the riches of this world, then we may receive them and be stripped from the true riches in God. The desires of our hearts will test us.

The spirit of Jezebel works continually to entice all people.  If we are among the “poor,” we may be envious and desire more delicacies, so we will join with those who connive for riches. The prosperity message will appeal to us, yet it is a perfect example of the spirit of Jezebel. If we are rich, we may become attached to our riches and deny the One who has provided them for us. Either way, we will be tested with our worldly possessions.

Note that the Lord calls this “Jezebel” a prophetess. She uses God’s word to lure the people.  In the Old Testament, this wicked woman was married to King Ahab of Israel. Above all, she hated God’s prophets and was out to kill them all.

Jezebel had her own set of prophets – the prophets of Baal. She had replaced the worship of the true God with the worship of her false gods. It was at that time that Elijah and other true prophets went to hide in caves by fifties. This story is so much like what has happened in these last days as God’s true Word has been thrown out of the pulpits and the word of false prophets is being held up as the truth.

When the Lord visited the seven churches and sent his letters to each, He was calling a remnant that would not be defiled, out of each of them. He was pointing out that the new “Christian” church that had been established in these places, had been taken by spirits of darkness that were going to lead them into times of great darkness. This is why the “Christian” church, who was called to be a beacon of light to the world, became the great harlot that led kings and entire nations astray.

As Jesus declared, “To He that overcometh…” Out of every church along the centuries, our Lord brought a remnant of those who found the right Spirit and overcame the teachings of Jezebel. There is a remnant in the earth today. They have not bent their knee to these false doctrines.

Much like Elijah and the prophets of old, they have been directed to hide in caves (so to speak). They will remain underground until the spirit of Jezebel is revealed and cast out of the one who has been calling herself by His name, but is none of His.

This spirit of Jezebel has been deceiving the people by droves, but those who are seeking the truth are being separated from the multitudes that are following the great deception.

Speaking to the harlot church, John wrote, “And the light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore. And the voice of the bridegroom and the bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.” (Rev.18:23-24)

This church once had the voice of the Bridegroom and of the Bride; she was His. She began pure but became the great harlot of today. Today, she is the system of religions that has kept the souls of men in bondage and has extinguished the voice of true prophets. The day is at hand when this great whore will fully answer to the Lord with the eyes like a flame of fire and feet like fine brass.

When John describes the feet of the One that appeared to him on Patmos, he wrote, “His feet were like fine brass, as if refined in a furnace, and His voice as the sound of many waters.” (Rev. 1:15) This “fine brass” is a very important description of the feet.

The Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia notes that this “fine brass” refers to an alloy of copper and tin that was introduced to make weapons and tools stronger. This was before the advent of casting iron and it was introduced by the Amorites at the close of the early Bronze Age (c.2200 BC).

When objects of that time were analyzed, they showed an alloy of 2 to 16 percent tin. This is the alloy referred to as “Fine Brass” or “Burnished Bronze” in Rev.1:15 and 2:18 – The feet of the appearing Lord were described as such to show how He had walked the walk that made His feet to be strong, powerful, tough and absolutely invincible.

Beloved, in these last days, those who follow Jesus through the fire are prepared to be the “feet company.” They will accomplish His perfect will, even the work of overcoming death and the grave in the flesh (the last enemy).

Just as Jezebel of old had made alliance with the King of Israel, so the spirit of Jezebel has infiltrated the hearts and minds of God’s people. However, it is because of the walk that our Lord Jesus sustained, and has been sustaining through a people, that the spirit of Jezebel is revealed for what it is and is losing its grip on the people.

At the end of the age, when all of God’s true saints and overcomers have been called out and separated from that great deception, the remnant of the “Feet Company” will march in the power of new creation life. It takes a strong people to rule and reign and have dominion in the earth. The Adam race was not able to resist the pitfalls, but the Christ creation has feet that have followed Jesus and have been made strong through the furnace of fire.

Over the centuries, the Spirit has not only separated a remnant out of the churches, but He has led them through the furnace of fire. The last trump (last prophetic message) is at hand and the words are sounding loud and clear, “Babylon the great, the great whore that sits upon many waters has been judged.”

Satan has never feared the preachers, teachers and orators of the past. No matter how knowledgeable and anointed they were, he knew that he still had plenty of time and that their “words” could not touch him; they were not a real threat. Moreover, Satan was able to counterfeit and twist their words and plant many seeds of his own in the fields of their hearts. But when those who have walked through the fire appear in the name of the Lord, Satan begins to tremble.

These do not only speak the word, they have become “the Word of God.” Satan knows that he can no longer impersonate this people. When he sees the feet of refined brass standing on the earth, he knows that his time is very short.

As He appeared to Thyatira, the Lord today is coming as the One with feet of fine brass, to call those who will be able to let go of the teachings of  Jezebel, and acquire the feet that will overcome death itself.

“But to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, and who have not known the depths of Satan, as they call them, I will put on you no other burden. But hold fast what you have till I come.” (Rev. 2:24-25)

The Lord makes it clear; the spirit of Jezebel has been teaching the people and has led them to taste of the deep things of Satan. We can taste that God is good and experience the deep things of God by the Spirit, but this people had been taught to taste and experience the depths of Satan, thinking it was God.

The question arises, “What are the depths of Satan? Depth has to do with things that are so far underground that they cannot be seen. This evidently had to do with the teachings or doctrines of Jezebel. Jesus explains that she taught His servants to commit sexual immorality and to sacrifice to idols. Having established what spiritual sexual immorality really consists of, we conclude that this spirit is a deeply religious spirit.

Jezebel is the satanic spirit that craves to be worshiped. Satan has devised all manners of ways so that the people who desire to worship God, but do not know how, will come and worship him instead. The great deception is that multitudes believe that they are worshiping God, when indeed they are worshiping Satan.

Satan is a spirit that wants to be God. Because his nature craves to be worshiped as God, the depths of Satan are found in highly religious activities. Paul reveals to the church that he has been sitting in the temple of God (the minds and hearts of the people) making himself to be God.

The Adam creation has espoused that spirit of Satan so that it has become the “man of sin” or the image of the spirit of Satan. And now he “…opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself to be God.” (II Thes. 2:4)  Paul says that this one will be revealed in its own time. We know that for centuries, God’s Spirit has been revealing him to those with ears to hear. In this way, he has been cast out of the hearts and minds of those who are eagerly waiting to reveal the true God and Christ to this world.

When we are able to accept that we had also been in the depths of satanic religious powers, we are made free from all other burdens. The truth indeed makes us free. Our worship of the true God becomes very simple and we are ready to take up our true identity as sons of the living God.

“And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations- He shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the potter’s vessels shall be broken to pieces’- as I also have received from My Father.” (Rev. 2:26-27)

In this part of the letter, the Lord adds the keeping of His works to the overcoming of Jezebel’s teachings.  The reward for all this is not only freedom from burdens, but it is also power over the nations.

Note that the works are “His works.” They are not the works that men demand from us or that we put upon ourselves. The Amplified Bible translates these as “His commands” or as the works that “please Him.” They are works that His Holy Spirit leads us into daily and they bring glory to His name and not to the flesh.

Then the Lord promises that he who overcomes would receive power to rule over the nations. Why would any son of God aspire to rule over the nations? Why would God ask His sons to take on such an enormous task?

When Jesus, the Son of God, came to earth to fulfill His ministry, His disciples were looking to Him for deliverance from the oppression of the Romans who had conquered Israel and were ruling over them with an iron fist. So they wanted Jesus to take over the rule of their nation and be their King.

However, Jesus explained that this was not His Father’s purpose for Him. His kingdom was not of this world. Jesus had come to bring salvation unto men and to open the way for them to receive the “Kingdom of God” into their hearts. This was a concept that was nigh to impossible for them to understand.

Jesus kept His eyes fixed on the cross and on His mission as Savior of the world. He knew that there could only be peace when the hearts of men were changed. His mission was accomplished, and now we are looking for the sons to appear with new hearts and power to show the way to the world.

At the time of Jesus, the Jews were under the oppression of Roman domination. They were looking for the Messiah to come and deliver them from that oppression. Today, many Christians are very much of the same mind. They are looking for Christ to appear and take over the world’s governments and install His own men as leaders. It was not God’s purpose for the Jews then, it is not God’s purpose for us now.

We are looking for a totally new thing to take place in this earth. We are not looking for the Son or the sons to take over the kingdoms or nations of this world. This was what the Jews were looking for at the time of Jesus and it is what many Christians are hoping for today. We are not looking for more of the same, under a new Head. God’s kingdom will come visibly as He changes the hearts of men through the Spirit.

So what does it mean to have power over the nations? And who are these nations and where are they located? The word “nations” here depicts “races” or “tribes” such as the Heathen or Jews. Israel of old was God’s nation.

We know that Israel of old are “examples unto us upon whom the end of the age has come and they were written for our admonition. (I Cor.10:11) We also know that God had called His nation Israel to be a separate people and to have nothing in common with all the “nations” around them.

However, they did not abide by their God’s wishes. Instead they cried in His ear to give them a king just like the other nations. They were not satisfied with His way of ruling over them, they wanted a leader that they could see and hear with their natural senses.

This proved out to be catastrophic for them. God gave them the best king that He could find among the people. Saul started out pure before the Lord, but he ended up by yielding to the desires of his flesh. So what is the lesson for us in all this?  It is that the church of Jesus Christ, who was called to remain true and pure unto Him, desired to be ruled by a visible king too.

The leading of God’s Holy Spirit did not satisfy the church. She wanted to compete with the powers of this world and could not resist the urge to set up a leader that the people and the world could see. Even among those who have been separated today, there is a strong pull to gather together with a visible leader to admire. We see this being played out today as leaders are paraded in front of the people to be admired and revered as God.

Father, make us as the rod of iron that will not bend but will break to pieces the desire to conform rather than to stay separated unto You.

There are other “nations,”(organizations) that strive to influence  and rob us from the simplicity that is in Christ, and the doctrines that are taught by the spirit of Jezebel in the common churches actually feeds our desire for these. Today more than ever, the “gospel of prosperity” that is taught in the church is in direct opposition to the nature of God’s Holy Spirit.

Those who teach such gospels have formed “nations” that make every effort to influence the hearts and minds of “Christians” everywhere. Some have built the mega churches with appealing amenities for families who fear what the world might do to their children. These do not realize that the only power that can keep their children safe is the Living Christ in their own hearts.

Those who rule the nations with the “rod of iron” are given the strength to hold to the truth without bending.  They do not receive that strength by quoting what they hear from man, they become strong as they quote the truth that the Spirit makes real to them from within. Then they are free from the teachings of the spirit of Jezebel. The nations are no longer a temptation to them, instead they rule over them in power and in truth.

The morning star is the first bright light to appear in the thickest darkness of the night sky. John also recorded these words of Jesus, “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.” (Rev. 22:16)

The Lord first identifies Himself as the Root and Offspring of David. This means that He is the One who came in the flesh but is now in His body of glory. He also calls Himself the Bright and Morning Star.

He is the first Bright Light, the Truth that arises from the darkness of our hearts and shines into our minds. He is the Light that shows us that we were once in the image of Adam, but that, by Holy Ghost power, we are being changed into the image of Christ. He is the “Firstborn from the dead.” (Rev. 1:5) “He abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel.” (II Tim. 1:9)

Peter tells us that the word of the prophets is a light to us, but it still keeps us in much darkness. It is when the Bright and Morning Star arises in our hearts that He illuminates our minds with the Light of life. We also have the prophetic word made more sure, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Morning Star rises in your hearts.” (II Pet. 1:19)

When the Morning Star arises in our hearts, the Light of truth dawns upon us and we see the reality of God’s Kingdom within us. We are able to shed all our ways of false worship, and we truly worship God in Spirit and in truth.

The Morning Star in our hearts is the Light that opens our understanding so we shed the doctrines of darkness that we were taught, such as believing that we are going to be literally caught up in a rapture. By His Light we see clearly that we are being caught up in the Spirit and meeting Him where He is with the Father.

We know the truth and we are made free from the lies of men. Sin, death and the grave no longer hold their power of fear over us. At this time, death still provides a way of escape from pain and suffering. As He did to the thief that recognized Him on the cross, Jesus still offers a place called “Paradise.” It is a state where the departed ones find peace, solace and love until Resurrection; but the Bible still calls death an enemy.

Death causes much grief and sorrow and we look forward to the day that the “Trump of God” shall sound and the last message from the Lord will be heard, and there will be no more tears and no more death. Amen.

Recently the Lord dropped a word in my heart that I need to share. We know that among Christians, there are various doctrines or teachings concerning what is commonly called, “The Trinity.” This is a controversial teaching that has separated some of the faithful followers of Christ.

No one, who has read the Bible, can deny that our God is One God. Everyone is familiar with the words that declare, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, is one!” (Deut. 6:4)

And there is the letter of John the Beloved who explains in details, “This is He who came by water and blood- Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three who bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one.” (I Jn. 5: 6-8)

We know that the Son is the Word and that Jesus is the Word made flesh. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Jn. 1:1) “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (Jn. 1:14)

The Son and the Father were One in the beginning, but the Father sent His Son to the visible realm of the earth with a body of flesh and a purpose for His creation. “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men.” (Phil. 2:5-7) Jesus and the Father were one. Then the Father begot the Son out of His own being and the Son was born a woman, from the womb of Mary, and the One had become two.

Later, the Son was baptized of John. The word “baptize” means to be “immersed into something.” Jesus was not only immersed into water by John, but something else wonderful happened at the same time. A voice was heard from heaven and a dove appeared. “Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, Ýou are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21-22)

Jesus had not only been baptized in water unto repentance; He was filled with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is not just a power from God, but just as the Word was with God and was God in the beginning, so the Spirit is very much God. This is also what John the Beloved wrote, “For there are three who bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.”

When Jesus was walking this earth, He was the Son of God filled with the Spirit of God. He did not have the Spirit by measure as we do; He had the fullness of the Spirit. We have been given an earnest or a down payment of our inheritance.  “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who has also sealed us and given us the Spirit in our heart as a deposit.” (II Cor. 1:21-22)

The King James Version calls this deposit an “earnest.” It is a foretaste and a seal. Jesus had the fullness and we have a deposit but this deposit is very much the Holy Spirit of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is God.

God is One, but because He so loved the world and His creation, He sent the part of Himself who is the Word into the earth and the Word became flesh. Then He sent a part of Himself, the Holy Spirit, into the Son and filled Him with power from on high and the three agree in one.

When all is accomplished the three will again be One. “Now when all things are made subject to Him (the Son) then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him (the Father) who put all things under Him (the Son) that God may be all in all.” (I Cor.15:28)

When the Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit rose from the dead, He sent the Spirit into His disciples. He said that He would not leave them orphans, which means without a Father. Indeed, He gave them Himself in the Holy Spirit, to lead them to the Father.

This was the promise of the Father to His Son for His disciples. “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49) Jesus was sending them the Promise, but the Father sent them that Promise as they tarried in the upper room in Jerusalem. The Father released the part of Himself called the Holy Spirit to them.

We conclude that the Father, the Son and the Spirit ARE ONE. But because God is doing a very special work in His creation, He sent out the Son and the Spirit to fulfill this work. In the beginning, the Son, the Spirit and the Father were One. In the end, the three are One again, and the entire kingdom has become One in them.

Paul wrote to the church that God has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, and that He has predestined us to become sons according to the good pleasure of His will. (See Eph. 1:4-5) He also wrote “that in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth – in Him.” (Eph. 1:10)

From His place of power at the right Hand of God, Jesus is gathering all things in Christ. When Mary found Him at the tomb, Jesus was quick to tell her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.” (Jn. 20:17)

Jesus did not tell Mary to go tell this to His disciples, He told her to go and tell His brethren. He had made His Father, their Father. Only through Jesus Christ is God our Father. He is Creator of all, but He is Father of those who are in the Son.

“…and now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.” (Jn. 17:5) In another part of his letter John quotes Jesus as He explained to His disciples that He was returning to His Father. He first promised them that He would come back and lead them to where He was going, then He said, “And where I go you know, and the way, you know.” (Jn. 14:4)

These bewildered disciples were not yet “spiritual.” They really did not know what Jesus was talking about, but Jesus was telling them anyway.  He knew that the Holy Spirit was going to indwell them, and that He would lead them into all truths. Without the baptism in the Holy Spirit, it is not possible to be spiritual and to understand the true meaning of the words of Jesus. When the Holy Spirit comes in, He illuminates our minds and opens our understanding so we can see.

Jesus was going to the Father. He was not going to a place in heaven where the Father sat on a throne. Jesus was being caught up INTO the Father Himself and becoming fully One with the Father again. This was the glory that He had with Him before the world was.

But there was more! Mary could not touch His body at the tomb because it was not yet glorified. By the sprinkling of His blood, Jesus sanctified this new body of glory, and gathered this new body into the Father. Jesus became One again with the Father in His new Body of glory! This body of glory became one with the Father! Now He is gathering us in the Father…”that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (Jn. 17:21b)

The new dwelling place of the invisible Father in His visible creation was now in place. The invisible God could now be known by His creation. This is what the Father had purposed in the world. This is the amazing achievement of the cross. The new creation of God is being gathered in Christ and caught up into the Father! Hallelujah and Amen!

Because of His love,
