At the central core of any person’s life is the need to know who they are, where they came from and where they are going. It is our foundation on which we build our lives.

God, in His dealing with man, has always spoken to them their true identity. Fallen man has tried in vain to make a ‘name for themselves’, but God has a name for us that only He knows. The scripture teaches that we can know our true identity in Christ and walk in it. This identity manifests the Sons of God in the earth and produces fruit for the Kingdom of God.

Jesus knew who he was in relationship to his Father from a small child. He did not think it robbery to be associated with God Himself. Why? Because he knew the word of God concerning Him.

The Word is not silent concerning who we are as believers. Paul’s letters were filled with statements concerning the identity of the believer and his relationship with the Father. In fact it was the driving theme of his ministry to the gentiles.

The believer’s opposition comes mainly from men who try to undermine this knowledge. The Pharisee’s  went so far as to claim that Jesus was illegitimate. This was an attack on His identity and relationship with the Father. This of course is the core of Satan’s opposition. Remember his words to Jesus in the wilderness test. ‘If you are the Son of God, then… ‘ If Satan can make us doubt, or even reject our identity then we are rendered weak or useless to the Father.

The following scriptures are supportive of our identity and relationship with God. Read them and put them in your heart. These are foundation stones to build your life on.

Rom 8:14-17; 14] because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15] For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16] The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17] Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Gal 3:26-29 26]You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27] for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28] There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29] If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

2CO 6:18 “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Gal 4:4-7; 4] But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5] to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. 6] Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7] So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Note: These are not all the scriptures concerning our identity, however these are the ones that I was led to give.
