TELLING A LIE

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.” Joseph Gobbles
When we are told something that we do not agree with, we usually dismiss it instantly. We seldom entertain ideas that we oppose. Most adults are set in their ways and beliefs and are not willing to change. But if we are told something over and over again for a great length of time we often accept it. We might not agree with it but as long as it really isn’t affecting us on a personal level, as long as it is someone else’s sets of beliefs we will permit it instead of resisting it.
One example is homosexuality. Years ago the mention of someone being gay would bring ridicule, scrutiny, prejudice and violence. I am not saying that any of these reactions are godly I am just stating the fact. But with the liberal media, the entertainment world and the moral decline of values in America, homosexuality became protected. Matter of fact if someone murders a homosexual they will probably get a harsher sentence by the courts now because it will be labeled a hate crime. I see homosexuality like an alien invasion. When the aliens first stepped out of the closet and announced that they had arrived many ran in terror, others took up arms against them, some sympathized with them while other accepted them. Soon this small minority of people became the mainstream. Their promiscuity and alternative lifestyles are now broadcast throughout the entire entertainment world, piped into our homes and now into our schools. Media and talk shows promote this lifestyle as “the norm.” If you disagree with them then you are “abnormal.” This is the mindset of liberals.
“A lie told often enough becomes truth.“ Vladimir Lenin
Another example is the issue of abortion. Last year 4 million babies were murdered because of this practice. Years ago people understood right and wrong and they understood clearly that to take a life was murder. Yet because of liberal women’s groups and radical fanatics, society took notice of this practice and started making excuses for the acceptance of this practice. There are those who feel that abortion of any kind should be legal; others state if the mothers life is in danger; some say if a women is raped and becomes pregnant she should have the right to abort; while others say that it is murder regardless. Yet now abortion is one of the main issues
of our time. And it continues each and every day. Why is there even discussion concerning such a cruel and unusual practice? It is because “they” keep feeding the public their lies and babies will continue dying.
“A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” Mark Twain
In both of these examples what seemed to be wrong in the beginning homosexuality and abortion have really become an accepted way of life in America. I honestly do not see anytime in the near future that either one of these issues will be resolved in the conservatives favor. Both of these issues started small. Neither were accepted practices. Yet because advocates of both kept the pressure on and spoke out unashamed they soon found a platform to be heard. These two small groups of people began to be tolerated and then they begin to win acceptance. It is because they pushed and pushed and spoke out whenever and wherever they could. They found support with other minorities and did not stop until their causes were the mainstream and America sat back and allowed it to happen with little fight. Our politicians caved in and corruption spilled down like lava melting the very moral fabric of society. All of this based on lies told over and over again.
That brings me to the third example. The subject of hell is widely accepted by not only the majority of the church world but also the mainstream. Preachers preach God’s love in one breath and then in the next it is fire, brimstone and torment forever. The entertainment world also took up the cause because this theme made great movies, books and music. It is odd to me how the church and the entertainment world could agree and align on the subject of hell. What sort of spiritual insight has the entertainment world had? Did an angel step down and give a screen writer the answers to the afterlife or did they just mimic and copy what they heard preachers preach. And why would they want to have any agreement or association with the church in the first place. Surely the church is not their audience.
The idea of a place removed from God’s love or eternal torment originated with Pagan beliefs centuries ago. This idea carried over and was borrowed by the Catholic Church and instituted as accepted doctrine. Orthodox
Christianity dismissed much of Catholicism as the years past doing away with many of the ordinances, creeds and doctrines. Positions like the Priest, Bishops and nuns were dissolved as people broke away from “the church.” Yet certain doctrines remained because it was good for business. Hell is one of those subjects that is good for business.
“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” The Bible
In order to believe that God created this literal place of eternal torment is contradictory to the character of God as displayed in the example of the life of Christ Jesus. To believe that God would become so angry as to punish the majority of men and women without mercy is contrary to His very own nature of love.
But you ask the question “what about the wrath of the Lamb in the Book of Revelation? Let me ask you. Do you know anything about a lamb? A lamb is the most gentle creature in all of the world. It doesn’t get angry, it is not violent and it is a meek and timid creature. So obviously our interpretation and translation of the world wrath in these two key verses must be skewed.
The word “wrath” comes from the Greek word “orge” – “o№rgh/” – the Phonetic Spelling is or-gay.’
1. It has a broad definition: anger, the natural disposition, temper, character 2. movement or agitation of the soul, impulse, desire, any violent emotion, but esp. anger 3. anger, wrath, indignation 4. anger exhibited in punishment, hence used for punishment itself a. of punishments inflicted by magistrates
But we must look at the origin of the word to find its true meaning as it is applied. We know that we are talking here about a Lamb not a General or Captain in the military.
The word is derived from “Oregomai” the Phonetic Spelling “or-eg’-om-ahee” The meaning is to stretch one’s self out in order to touch or to grasp something, to reach after or desire something In the KJV we see it is to – covet after, desire, and in the NAS we find the meaning to be – aspires, desire, longing.
So as you see as we see a different light shed upon this verse. Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Why are they asking for the rocks to fall on them? It is because God is destroying their man made Kingdoms and their thought process. Everything that they had invested in and built is crumbling beneath His true love and
passion. They do not want to believe the love of the truth because they are so heavily indebted in the life. The world as they know it was an illusion and make believe and now the Kingdom of God has come in full power and glory and they now see just how dark their world truly was.
Another take on this verse I will borrow from J. Preston Eby who writes “The very thought seems incongruous. You see, dear ones, IT IS NOT THE NATURE of a lamb to torture anyone. It is simply not in the nature of the lamb to want to hurt in any way. Really! What could a lamb do to torture anyone? It has no capability for such a thing. And so it is with the LAMB OF GOD! The Lamb of God has no desire, no ability to inflict torture in any way – His desire is entirely redemptive – that men might have life and have it more abundantly! I cannot imagine One with the nature of a lamb packing poor lost souls like brick into a kiln, standing there blowing the fires of hell through them for ever. Such a grotesque representation charges the blessed Redeemer with crimes more heartless than those of Adoph Eichmann. Ah, the torment comes not from the Lamb. The torment lies within the bosoms of the tormented. The Scripture does not say that the Lamb torments them! If you think it does, you are mistaken. It states that THEY ARE TORMENTED IN THE PRESENCE of the Lamb. What a thought! TORMENTED IN THE PRESENCE. The Lamb is merely present. He does not torment. The condition is within themselves. Because they are wrong and sinful in nature, wicked in their hearts, selfish in their minds, and impure in their desires, they are CONDEMNED IN THEIR CONSCIENCES by the very PRESENCE of the pure, holy, sinless, selfless, sacrificing Lamb of God. Hell is at its fiercest when it sees heaven, and not till then.
When these realize the presence, or the character of the Lamb, they are tortured in their consciences, for in the Light of the Lamb they see themselves for the wretched little devils they are. The very PRESENCE of TRUTH torments the deceitful and the liar. The very PRESENCE of HOLINESS torments the immoral and corrupt. The very PRESENCE of LOVE is torment to the mean and hateful. The PRESENCE of Him who is the PRINCE OF PEACE is torture to those who live by violence and the sword. The very PRESENCE of the LIFE OF THE LAMB is the most awful torment and torture to all the opposing forces, both deceiver and deceived, until all the deceit and hostility has been taken out of them, and they come to KNOW THE LORD. When these have been exposed for a sufficient time to the PRESENCE of the Lamb, the Lamb will overcome them; His love and power will conquer their hearts; the rebellion and waywardness will be taken from them and they will at last ENJOY the Presence of the Lamb!
When the maniac of Gadara encountered the Christ the devils cried out, saying, “Have You come here to TORMENT US before the time?” Matt. 8:29 IT WAS TORMENT FOR A POSSESSED PERSON TO BE IN THE PRESENCE OF THE CHRIST. It is torment for any enemy of God to be ushered into the presence of God. Anyone who is unacquainted with God and happens to come into a group who are worshipping and praising God, is in torment all the time he is there. The sooner such a person can leave, the better he likes it. Such an atmosphere is hell for that person! Why is it so hard to get your unsaved loved ones and friends to go to Church? They are unhappy and miserable in a Church meeting! They are tormented when with the saints worshipping God. They are estranged from God, citizens of the devil’s kingdom, and cannot relate to the praises of God, the moving of the Holy Spirit, giving tithes, and the Word that is ministered. This all makes them unhappy and uncomfortable.” Look at how God feels about physical fire and torment. Jer. 32:35 And they built the high places of Baal, which [are] in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through [the fire] unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
“NEITHER CAME INTO MY MIND”
Jer. 7:31 says “which I commanded [them] not, neither came it into my heart.”
If God forbids this practice why then would He do the same?
Look at what Christ said to us in Matt. 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”
Now if God expects us to do this, would He ask us to do something that He Himself would not do?
All through the N.T we see God’s instruction for us that we might understand His nature. He expects us to conform to His likeness. His likeness is spelled out plainly in black and white throughout the scriptures. Look at these scriptures of instruction and know that God would never ask us to do anything that He Himself would not do.
Rom. 12:14 – Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Rom. 12:20 – Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
1 Pet. 2:23 – Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:
1 Pet. 3:9 – Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
“The history of our race, and each individual’s experience, are sown thick with evidence that a truth is not hard to kill and that a lie told well is immortal.” Mark Twain
You can believe whatever you like concerning the subject of hell. But I warn you, however you view hell is how you will see God. My personal relationship is so much more intimate since He has revealed His heart and nature to me. When I walked according to popular belief I could never get close to God because I always felt separated from Him because of my own guilt. But since He has chosen to reveal the GOOD NEWS to me I see Him for what He is and that is why I view this subject differently than most.
Now you might ask. O.K. then, if we are not being saved from hell then what are we being saved from? He saved us from the consequences of sin, from the law of sin and death, and has delivered us from this present evil world. You see without Christ dying and resurrecting from the dead we would perish and thus never wake from our sleep. So yes Christ died for me while I was yet a sinner in order to give me life. Not just any life but His life!
If we are fed lies long enough (homosexual lifestyle or abortion, the theory and concept of hell) we tend to start accepting it as the norm. Thank God we still have decent people in America who are believers who still question gay lifestyle and a women’s right to choose. Thank God we still have people who fight against racism, bigotry and prejudice. Thank God we have people fighting for our second amendments rights. (The right to bear arms) And I thank God that the Lord has set me in a position to question the church about this subject of hell.
Now many are so rooted and grounded in this doctrine of fear and torment they will be offended and will oppose my views. But these are the same people who themselves do very little if anything for the Kingdom except stir up trouble and spread rumors. These are the type Jesus warned us about. These are those who still listen to and promote mainstream music not realizing that every dime that they spend on a CD goes to causes that they probably are is disagreement with. These are those who ignorantly oppose the doctrine of love, grace and mercy extended to all men. These are those who are religiously minded and these are the most dangerous types of Christians. They are living a double standard. They are trapped in a world of mixture and confusion.
“Ambition drove many men to become false; to have one thought locked in the breast, another ready on the tongue.” Sallust
If I sound harsh I will say that my doctrine is not nearly as harsh as the churches stance which hopes to have heaven all to themselves while billions of people burn endlessly. Do you think that the party in heaven could ever drown out the cries of those in flames of agony? They burn yet they are not burned up? Come on people, think straight here. What sort of God would endorse such a thing?
Until the church of America truly embraces love, grace, mercy and forgiveness the church will never know the true love of Christ which passes all understanding. They will not know the peace that Jesus has left to us. Not peace as the world gives, but an unbroken peace that settles the heart and brings us into a right standing in our hearts and minds to God.
